About:

Kitty String is a company based in the Philippines and owned by Hiro Koba. These strings are sold in many retail stores in 20 different countries. They have been produced and sold since 2007.

Packaging:

I buy my Kitty Strings in packs of 100. They shipped in a wonderfully designed box (see picture).

First Impression:

The first time I tried Kitty Fat String was a long time ago (2 years about); before I had tried anything other than YoYoExpert's Slick 6 string. Because of this, my first impression was "Whoa!" I was shocked at how different this string was. Due to the price difference between the Slick 6 and Kitty String, I was skeptical of how much I would value the Kitty's myself. Thankfully, I was impressed! Unfortunately, back then, I had next to no monthly income, so I had to stick with Slick 6 or Poly string from YoYoExpert because of their prices.

Sadly, I was not big on string two years ago and I had only ever tried two or three types. This meant that I was not paying too much attention the exact play of the Kitty String, so until I tried them later on, I did not have a good idea on how to describe them.

All in all, these strings instantly became my favorite from the very first throw.

Second Impression:

I started using Kitty String about 6 months later after I found a way to make more money. It was now that I was able to truly understand more about them.

The Kitty Strings are great for slacks and whips and maintain great string tension well. I remember not having to adjust my string tension as much as I did with the YoYoExpert string. I also found that the Kitty Fats also last longer than any other strings I had tried back then, so they became my go-to string.

By this time in my yoyo career, I was becoming the 5A player that I am now. I also discovered that these strings worked better with some counterweights than others. For example, the Duncan dice were fine, but the Rubber ball (that I preferred to use in my beginning stages of counterweight play) caused the string to wear out faster. A quick fast-forward to 2016, and I find that the new Jake Elliott Ultraweight and Kitty String are the best 5A combination that I have tried yet.

Kitty String has a lot of different kinds of string. These strings that I am reviewing are the Fats, which are the only ones I have thrown enough to really write a review for. So, about the Fat strings:

Kitty Fats are perfectly sized for my taste; not too thin and not too thick. The only color I ever try to use is Neon Yellow (with Neon Green as my second option), and it is brighter than any other Neon Yellow I have tried to the date that I am writing this. I love the bright string because it makes it really easy to see.

Overall, Hiro Koba of Kitty String nailed these strings. They are awesome!

Third Impression: (one month after starting to consistently use them)

After a month of constant use, I had gone through a fair amount of strings, but that is mostly due to the fact that I used multiple at one time on different yoyos that all got played a lot. By this time, I have used the Fat strings so much that going back to a thinner string took some getting used to. However, I am now capable of using both back-to-back with no problem.

Conclusion:

Unlike yoyos, I usually do not get a new impression of the strings after the first week of throwing. Every time I get a yoyo, I love it the first week, but I usually just add it to the collection and throw everything else again after that first week. With Kitty String, there is a lasting awesomeness attached that never goes away. I have always liked Kitty Fats and I can not wait to try more kinds of it.
