Cloud String

About:

Cloud Strings were designed by a yoyo player named Quinton Fox, who never found his "perfect string." At $4 for a single string, they are the most expensive on the market. However, they are definitely worth it.

Packaging:

Cloud String is packaged in a small plastic zip-lock bag with a small sticker on the inside with the logo on it. There is only one string in each bag and they are sold individually.

First Impression:

The first time I tried Cloud String, I did not like it. It was thinner than anything I had ever tried before. It took me a few minutes to eventually get used to it and start to enjoy it more. The string definitely thin and is extremely tight-wound, which causes a slight problem when attempting to put the string on the yoyo.

I am guessing it is this same trait that the string does not require much string tension maintenance. I am able to play for a long time without adjusting it once.

Cloud Strings are also incredible in the fact that they feel like a new string on every throw. They have that "bounce" that a new string has the never goes away. It is ever-present and I love it.

When you first start to use Cloud Strings, it is hard to judge where to cut the string because they stretch really far. I ended up playing mine full length until they had stretched out a ways. The longer you play them, the longer the string stretches.

Second Impression:

After they have been played for a week, the strings play like new in all but one way. They still have the bounce, the good string tension, and everything I love about it, but they are no longer rough feeling, but smooth and soft.

As I already mention, this string really stretches. After one week, they have stretched so far that I have had to cut my string even shorter. This does not affect the play at all, but is a tiny inconvenience that is not large enough to take anything away from the awesomeness of Cloud Strings.

So, to conclude this section, I would say that after one week of play, Cloud Strings go from better to best.

Third Impression:

I have not had these strings for a full month yet, but I have heard that they can last for two months and still play like new.

The only problem I have with these strings is the price. Coming in at a whopping $4 per string, they are the most expensive on the market. This means that I only use one at a time and switch it from yoyo to yoyo as a wish. The problem with this is that I like not having to change a string every time I want to throw something new. However, the fact that they last longer than any other string that has ever been made, I do not have to buy more string often.

Is there a problem with these strings? In my opinion, they are not good for competition. I prefer a string that has lost its "bouncy newness feel." I have no idea why, but this is what I prefer.

Conclusion:

There are many many people who love these strings and buy multiple of them and plan on not using anything else. I definitely like these strings, but I personally prefer a little bit thicker string that costs less. These strings are a once in a while kind of thing for me, though, and I will get one or two more sometime, I am sure.

The biggest question a lot of people are asking about these strings is: "Are they worth the $4?"

My answer is: In my opinion, yes, they are.

Clearly, everyone has a different opinion, so my overall advice is to get these if you feel like it and you think you will enjoy them. If there is a doubt, do not spend the money on them. One thing is for sure, though: there is no need to buy more than two or three of these at a time because of how long they last.

In conclusion, these strings are incredible! Way to go Quinton Fox!
